Paris FC 2-2 Arsenal Women, and the goals Renée Slegers kept promising finally turned up. Alessia Russo scored on 41 minutes. Georgia Stanway added another on 50.
It still only bought a point. That's the bit that stings.
Before the game Slegers was bullish about an attack that had managed three goals in five matches. "We know that it will come," she said. She was half right.
She barely touched the side that lost at Chelsea. Misa came back in goal for Anneke Borbe. Lotte Wubben-Moy replaced the injured Steph Catley alongside Leah Williamson, with Emily Fox and Laia Batlle either side of them.
It was assistant coach Aaron D'Antino who faced the press afterwards. He called it "incredibly disappointing, or frustrating I should say," and said Arsenal felt they had "good control" for large periods. I don't think control is worth much when it ends level.
Two goals away in Europe should have been the night the attack clicked. Instead it ended up feeling like a point dropped, and a draw like that is worth getting angry about. Arseblog News says Slegers is allowed to be. I agree. Stanway's booking on 63 minutes says the night had an edge to it, too.
Manchester City away is next in the WSL, on 4 October. Arsenal are seventh. You'd want the goals from Paris to travel.
Leeds come to the Emirates on 10 October, and two of Arsenal's midfielders had a decent international week. Bruno Guimarães scored for Brazil. Mikel Merino set one up in a Spain win.
Andre Harriman-Annous, who already has senior minutes for Arsenal, started this window on England's U20 standby list. He'd played for the U18s in May 2025. Slow, steady, and going the right way.
